Sign in and workspaces

Open the Shadows app (usually app.getshadows.com) and go to the Sign in page. You have two options.

Sign in with Google

  1. Click Continue with Google.
  2. Choose your work Google account.

Sign in with email and password

  1. Enter your Email and Password.
  2. Click Sign in.

After you sign in, Shadows takes you to the workspace you used most recently. If you can no longer reach that one, it takes you to your home workspace instead.

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot password?
  2. Enter your email and submit the form.
  3. Check your inbox for a reset link and use it to choose a new password. The link expires after one hour.

When the reset is done, you’re returned to the sign-in page with the message “Password updated. Please sign in.”

Linking Google to an existing password account

Section titled “Linking Google to an existing password account”

You might first sign in with an email and password, and later choose Continue with Google with the same address. In that case, Shadows sends a confirmation email before it links the two:

  1. Open the email titled for linking Google to your Shadows account.
  2. Click the link within 15 minutes.

Didn’t get the email? Check your spam folder, or sign in with Google again to send a new one.

If two-factor authentication is turned on for your account, you’ll see a Two-factor authentication step after your password. Depending on how you set it up, enter one of these:

  • Authentication code: the 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
  • WhatsApp code: a 6-digit code sent to your WhatsApp. Click Resend code if it doesn’t arrive.
  • Recovery code: one of the recovery codes you saved when you set up two-factor authentication.

Most people join Shadows because someone on their team invited them. The invite arrives by email.

  1. Click the link in the invite email.
  2. Do the step that matches your situation:
    • New to Shadows: confirm your email, enter your Full name, choose a Password, and click Accept invite.
    • You already have a password account: enter your password and click Sign in and join followed by the workspace name.
    • Your account uses Google: click Continue with Google.
    • You’re already signed in as the invited person: click Join followed by the workspace name.
  3. You land in the new workspace.

Workspace admins send invites from Settings → Team. See Team and roles.

A workspace is one company account in Shadows. It has its own deals, contacts, settings, and team. You can belong to more than one workspace, and you may have a different role in each.

Every page in the app belongs to a workspace, and the workspace name appears in the address:

https://app.getshadows.com/w/acme-sales/crm/deals

In this example, acme-sales is the workspace. That’s useful to know when you share a link: the person opening it sees the page in that same workspace, provided they’re a member.

  1. Click the workspace name in the top-right corner of the app.
  2. Pick another workspace from the list. The role you hold in each workspace appears under its name.

If your workspaces belong to an organization, the list is grouped under the organization’s name. Any workspaces outside an organization appear under Other accounts.

  1. Open the workspace switcher.
  2. Click Add new account.
  3. Enter a Workspace name and click Create.

Shadows opens the new workspace straight away.

“You don’t have access to this workspace”

Section titled ““You don’t have access to this workspace””

You’ll see this page when a link points to a workspace you aren’t an active member of. This can happen because:

  • The workspace doesn’t exist.
  • You were never invited to it.
  • Your membership has been suspended.

The page lists the workspaces you can open. Choose one, or ask an owner of the other workspace to invite you.

If you sign in and are told your account “isn’t attached to a workspace yet”, you have an account but no workspace membership. Ask an admin to invite you.

Click your name at the bottom of the left sidebar, then click Sign out.
